He did start speaking out loud about the things he saw because he was so outraged by it. I no longer remember the details. His candid nature was bringing attention to it. Then he was assassinated. The bulk of what people can authoriatively confirm is within his diaries and letters. However, some quotes outside of this context do exist. Don't know if this is one of them.
