Get a copy of "They were white and they were slaves" by Michael A Hoffman II. Published about thirty years ago. Tons of information about the enslavement of marginalized people such as Irish, Scottish, orphan English kids and English street kids. I believe the photo in the OP is of child laborers at a South Carolina textile mill in the early 20th century.
