Sadly, while Irish indentured servants were the first such to be imported to the America's by the British, they weren't the first slaves imported to the Americas. The Jewish exiles living in Spanish and French colonies were already dealing in African slaves in the Americas for several decades by then providing the labor that made it possible for the plantations owned by European nobles to thrive and prosper.
