Anyone here do it? Any surprises? Anyone just do long hiking in general? I'm an experienced hiker, and wife is retiring military this year, so I don't anticipate her having trouble, as she's fit, and acclimated to rucks. I'm interested in anyones experiences....

We're planning a few week long hikes this summer for prepping, gear, etc. You do hammocks, bivy bags, or tents? Any gear surprises you can share? Good or bad?

I use a cheap, still pretty light, 1-man tent with ample vestibule (to put your pack under). Rain will be more frequent in the Appalachians than the desert where I hike.

A longer trip will probably call for more gear repair items. Jacket rips, zippers break, tent poles snap, etc.

Gear repair..... I feel dumb for not really factoring that in, but yea... being two days from a town and needing a bit of glue, thread, etc... I'll get an Altoids tin kit together. I'll take your suggestions on that....
