Anyone here do it? Any surprises? Anyone just do long hiking in general? I'm an experienced hiker, and wife is retiring military this year, so I don't anticipate her having trouble, as she's fit, and acclimated to rucks. I'm interested in anyones experiences....

I'm ex-military (Europe), special forces and experienced hiker and can tell you that it's not a hike you should be preparing for, but an expedition. Use this word instead of hike when researching how to prepare and also when looking for equipment.

So will you be in complete wilderness for the whole time or will you pass by towns to restock?

It's a very well traveled, popular trail with many towns along the way. A few hundred ppl a year do a thru-hike.

Would be great idea to research what kind of supplies you can get in which town/stop alon the route and put it all down in a notebook so you can plan ahead.

I've done that, and already bought bulk freeze dried, as most of the resupplies consist of gas stations and small conveniece stores, and I do not do crap diets. The technique I'm leaning towards is ship the food to our first town, resupply, then ship it forward, but not sure on delivery times, etc.. but yea.. more research for sure. But I've started now, and got the time....
