Something I've always wondered is if the people who take the iodine uptake and kill their thyroid, would they be affected by radiation? Most fallout radiation is absorbed by the thyroid which is why they sell those pills to protect it.

Radioactive iodine is only one byproduct of a nuclear blast, so yes they would still be susceptible to fallout radiation, they just wouldn’t have to worry about getting thyroid cancer.
