Consider too that basic appliances all have WiFi. Can't appliances just be appliances? Does everything need a CPU? I guess the answer is no. As long as they can charge a monthly subscription fee or sell the user data for it.
Read the bottom comment below first, else won’t make lots of sense. I had a second thought and replied twice - And if you want to by a washer and dryer that works for the rest of your kids lives: speed queen.
I had a guy that ran laundry’s tell me once, if you can’t afford a speed queen then save your fucking money until you can.
My whirlpool washer/dryer have had no issues besides the electronic fill valve. Cold went out in 2020, hit just went out last week. The part in Amazon is $13, cross reference it don’t buy the $70 one.
I’ll put that in this weekend.
Yeah speed queens are 1500-2k each, but if you buy Lucky gold star shit, you will spend that much over the next 5 years replacing them. So one and done.
When the whirlpools die and I can’t fix, speed queen it will be.
There are numerous appliances that don’t have diddly dick for technology. Take zline for example. My oven/cooktop doesn’t even have a fucking clock and I bought it 2 years ago. It has 1 button, light. Convection fan is however triggered by the turn knob, so that’s something that could break. And it has electric piezo lightwr. But if that all breaks. It’s an electric oven with gas cooktop and I can use a match to start the cooktop.
There are many cases, lots of whirlpool gear you can get without all the tech. Or if you research the owner ship matrix on appliances (all made by a few) find the lowest end brand of the mayor mfg. example: whirlpool makes fridgiare and they lack mostly even buttons and logic for the paddles to fill water and ice.
Washing machines also you can find.
Just stop looking at LG ( lucky golstar) or Samsung. All of that is fucking junk.
You can also buy an lcd than doesn’t have Roku or fire, google, built in. Never hook the tv to WiFi, and then use a Roku box/stick. Then you can limit the tracking to just that device. Tv has a camera? Who fucking cares it can’t get out because you never hooked to the network.
Also if you want to do real research on appliances, see what’s “free broken come pickup” on Craig’s list. You never see much of anything for appliances besides Samsung and LG. The electronics dies and they are junk.
My 20 year old washer and dryer still work. So does my 25 year old fridge. And even my 3 yr old fridge has no electronics outside of the built in logic for filter replacement and metering water, fast cool, door alarm.
Since governments love regulations, here's one: appliance makers need to have a 20 year pro rated warranty. I like it since it means they can build it anyway they want, but they're on the hook for 20 years.
It's either that or they need to design them with user replaceable parts that you can buy for 20 years.
Strange since my brothers compressor in his 9 yr old fridge went out, and they don’t make it. I said it’s a compressor, most any will work. He said sure the junk yard can do that.
