Thinking Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman. You'll probably better understand where I was coming from with that "temperance" argument toward success.

Also, the Dan Ariely books are good. (All about cognitive biases)

Another good one is The Theory of Scientific Revolutions, by Thomas S. Khun.

There are a bunch on cognitive biases worth reading as well which will blow you away how much like cattle we are.

Note that all these authors are Israeli Jews. That is probably not a coincidence so be careful with your mind while reading. I think the reason these guys are so good a behavior modification and study is because they have Talmudic training.

My pleasure. You can probably find good TED talks on a few of them for a short summary. Also, there is which is worth a watch for anyone who thinks they are "awake."
