My brother lives in Jersey. He tried to get a CCL a few years ago and the sheriff (I guess he made the "final" decision, then) called him and told him he doesn't give them to anyone but ex-law enforcement or ex-military and even then he denied most of them.

NJ is a nightmare for gun owners. For non-leftists in general, but especially gun owners.
My brother is a crazy lefty but is a huge supporter of the 2nd amendment. The limitations placed on him are insane. He's always amazed talking to me and what is perfectly legal here in AZ from conceal carry to samurai swords.
When we were kids my mom bought us ninja stars and slingshots and both were technically illegal in NJ. It was crazy.
