The same could be said for suppressors and body armor. Armor is still legal in most places, but its come under fire a few times because of "muh officer safety". Fun fact about suppressors, there was a bill going through congress which would have removed a lot of the red tape to own one just before the Vegas shooting. Obviously that bill lost all of its traction following that shooting.
