**** INTRO ****

Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Hello and welcome to another Friday Night Guitar Thread! This time, it's the St. Patrick's FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

If you've been paying attention, you've been waiting for this for a long time. We have something new for you this week, something original! It seems like a good coincidence that it was done in time for a holiday thread.

This song is an exercise in finger speed. Wait for it, and listen very carefully. Yes, those are individual notes and not some effect or sliding.

Rock on, Poalr Bears! Rock on!

Sheeeit that is great. Fantastic guitar playing. I guess that's what you call shredding.

[–] 0 pt

LOL Glad ya like it! These old fingers still work.

Rock on!

Wow! Hell yeah! This is fucking awesome!

[–] 0 pt

Glad ya liked it. It took some doing. Much of it is multi-tracked and not effects.

[–] 0 pt

It sounds fucking great man!

Yo! I messed around with this song. Then I find out the January Sixth prisoners along with President Trump had a number one chart topper on iTunes last week of the same song... taking over the top spot from Miley Cyrus, "Flowers." How 'bout that. You gotta be pretty good to beat out super duper gal Miley Cyrus.

Make sure not to let any niggers in!

Nice choice. I almost did a cover of Metallica's version of the song.

That song has like a zillion possible versions. It's an old Irish ballad that has been covered by everyone from the Irish Rovers to Thin Lizzy to the Grateful Dead.

Metallica's the new folks to cover it (and that was like a decade and a half ago) and their version sounds most like Thin Lizzy's version.

I don't think any of the major covers (of which there are many) use the exact same words in them. LOL It's kinda out there in an 'anything goes' manner, I do suppose.

That was funny when whoever Jerry was talking to say, you remembered the whole song, from 30 years ago, lyrics and all?

[–] 0 pt

He does not remember it all... (Spoiler alert.)

Everyone has covered it.

Hell, Metallica's version was at least 20 years ago... I remember covering it when it turned 2000.

Also, I heard from an old goat via the FNGT forum. They appear to be doing well and it was good to hear from them.

I do wish they'd consider joining us here on Poal and made a remark in that direction. It'd be awesome if they joined us again.

They sent me the message privately, so I don't feel comfortable sharing too much information. Y'all know how much I value privacy - and respect privacy. I'm sure they'd be comfortable with me sharing more, but I'll refrain from doing so as I did not think to ask for explicit permission to do just that.

I love that song. Totally depressing. Thanks for turning me on to it. Never heard it before.

[–] 0 pt

You're welcome. That poor baby

[–] 0 pt

You've shared that one before - or recorded that one before.

I 'member.

[–] 0 pt

Yeah we have played that before, but that's a new version by us

[–] 0 pt

Ah, I knew I'd heard it before from you guys but my memory wasn't good enough to know if it was a new version or not.
