Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Hello and welcome to a special edition of the FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

Five years. Five goddamned years... We've been doing this thread for five years. That's pretty much an eternity in Internet Years. That outlives so many fads, even real-world fads! I dare say, at this point, we're pretty much an institution.

In our time, we've had people be born, we've had people die, we've had trauma, and we've had joy. We've been, albeit small at times, a community where you can come share your work - just like what was asked in the very first guitar thread all those years ago.

And so...

I could make this a long speech but, you know what? Here's the track you've been waiting for!

Shut Up And Rock (The Usual Suspects) (share.fngt.gq)

I hope it was worth the wait! Count the individual guitar tracks. We had both a wet and dry channel, and we recorded the dry channel to re-amp the whole thing. I dare say it came out just fine.

Rock on, Poalr Bears! Rock on!

And, I should ping @AOU - if you're gonna sticky a thread, this is a good one. It's our 5th year anniversary!

[–] 3 pts

Damn thats a tasty jam

[–] 2 pts

Thanks. Glad ya liked it. It took more time than I expected, but that's mostly due to laziness and hot summer days that sap your motivation.

The timing worked out well, as it was suitable for the anniversary thread.

Five years... That's a long time.

[–] 2 pts

Congrats man that is a long time. I wish i was musically inclined, but im not so ill just settle for listening 😁cheers

[–] 2 pts

Dang buddy nice job nice job. Dunno what alk that tech shit you said but it sounded good.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks! I tend to bring out the big guns for special threads. The above song has many, many hours invested.

Basically, we recorded it and listened to it kinda like how you hear it - but we also recorded it without any effects. After we were done, we went back through and used plugins to get the sound we wanted for each individual stub/track. That's recording the dry tracks, while the wet tracks (those have effects) weren't actually recorded.

[–] 1 pt

Ok so dry is natural guitar and wet is all the plug-ins. Record with wet muted or super low then boost wet in where wanted?

[–] 1 pt

Hell yeah!

[–] 0 pt

I figured that'd be your response. It's another one for the car drives.

[–] 0 pt

I love it!

[–] 1 pt

How fast time flies when you are doing what you love.

Serious congrats, very well done, and by all means do carry on.

[–] 0 pt

Thanks. We'll almost certainly be here, or somewhere else, doing the same thing in another year.

[–] 3 pts

I've got a brand new song for you guys

Tanx (youtube.com)

I just finished it last night.

[–] 1 pt

cool. did you do the backing tracks on fruity loops or something like that and jam along?? i like it

[–] 1 pt

I made everything myself, using Reaper as my DAW. Thank you.

[–] 1 pt

Very cool! Sounds like Randy Rhoads survived that crash, and is still makin' music.

[–] 1 pt

Nice. What'd you make it with?

[–] 2 pts

I bought the Kinetic Brass VST, and a new Jackson V guitar through my VHT Deliverance 120 and 2x 4x12" Marshalls, also synths - Roland Super JV and Yamaha CS1x.

[–] 1 pt

Nice. I'm not too adept with synths so I gotta enjoy what others do.

[–] 3 pts

Happy anniversary! (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

Well done! That ought to bring all the ladies in.

[–] 1 pt

thanks! I thought Chris sang that great. his ride had just pulled in the driveway here and we only had one shot to get it!

[–] 0 pt

I don't suppose we're goats anymore, but still not bad.

[–] 0 pt

did you hear the 'rar'?

[–] 0 pt

I did indeed. I heard the entire thing.

[–] 2 pts

Good job

[–] 0 pt

Thanks! We've been at it for a long time.

My brother came to town yesterday and we met up at our mom's house for supper. I noticed he had a few instrument cases sitting in the corner so I asked him what he brought. he had an accordion, a concertina, a ukulele, a mandolin, an autoharp and a dulcimer. So after dinner we played together some for the first time we have jammed together since we were 5 years old. I dont really know how to play those instruments so i faked it i on the ukulele.

here's us doing copperhead road (soundcloud.com) with no practice at all

[–] 1 pt

Nice work!

[–] 0 pt

Glad ya did it. That's a track you can remember.

[–] 0 pt

Theres more, and our mom videotaped it!

[–] 1 pt

As you two don't see each other often, that'll keep some memories alive.

[–] 2 pts

Congratulations Buddha on your 5 years in this thing. Pretty cool.

I posted this song by Sinatra called Fly Me to the Moon. Fly Me to the Moon (soundcloud.com)

[–] 0 pt

Nice! Somewhere there's a cover of me doing a Sinatra song. He's fun to cover. I wish we had like horns and stuff with the band so we could cover some other stuff. It'd be awesome.

Technically, today is the 5th year anniversary. It all started on August 20, 2017.

[–] 0 pt

you had quite the audience!!!

[–] 1 pt (edited )

Yeah, they got good taste.

I learned this song a pretty cool way. The guy on YT wrote the bass notes by using the scale position number of each chord. Figgered it would help me learn the fret board.

Ex. Am7: 1 2 b3 5; A maj scale is A (1) B(2) C#(3) D(4) E(5) F#(6) G#(7) A(8 or 1); So play A(1)plucks chord B(2) C(b3) E(5) Dm7: 1 b7 6 5; D maj scale is D1 E2 F#3 G4 A5 B6 C#7 D8; So play D(1)*plucks chord) C(b7) B(6) A(5)

The notes either ascend or descend. He designated which by putting a line either above (next note is higher) or a line below (next note is lower)

I coulda used TAB but I said fuck it, I'm gonna force myself to learn some theory.

[–] 0 pt

LoL thats cool. learning is good. I think that means you're getting better

[–] 2 pts

Happy Anniversary! Here's a cover of an unusual love song written by They Might Be Giants.

I'm Your Boyfriend Now (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

you sound like a stalker LoL

[–] 1 pt

I haven't heard that in ages. Good choice. Good job!

[–] 1 pt

I wrote this one in honor of COF but I guess it's in remembrance of him now. the Cynical Old Fart (soundcloud.com)

[–] 0 pt

Heh... I 'member one. And, yeah, I guess it's to remember him by now. After all, he was old. It was right there in his name!

[–] 0 pt

he was a huge part of this whole fngt thing!

[–] 0 pt

He was slow on the uptake, but once he started participating he was great at it. His contributions were many!

You, him, and I... We've been the backbone. This all started with an innocuous message asking if this was where we shared our work.

Five years later and we have a couple of new tracks in the thread from non-regulars! Sweet...

Also, I don't think @AOU is awake. He's in a different time zone.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

Here's (sndup.net) an odd one for the fifth. Happy anniversary.

Edit: Lol, that's the first time I've seen a FNGT submission downvoted. This must really suck balls.

[–] 0 pt

LOL Nice! We don't get many uke players 'round these parts.

Thanks for making our 5 year anniversary more awesome!

[–] 3 pts

Glad I could contribute.

Thanks for 'Friday Night Guitar Thread'. Cheers.

[–] 0 pt

throws horns

We're here every Friday, come rain or shine.

[–] 0 pt

Nice one! Love the bitching uke solo!

[–] 0 pt

this song (soundcloud.com) would not even exist without the FNGT having existed

[–] 0 pt

LOL I listened to it all again.

Yeah, that was a rather dramatic change to my life. I'll never be the same. I still fuckin' hurt. I'm a goddamned idiot.

[–] 0 pt

I got an awesome song out of it LoL!

[–] 0 pt

I got a great story, a limp, and probably a bunch of cash. There has been one hearing. I did not attend. I have no reason to attend at this time. That's why I have a lawyer. (There's no rule that I have to be there, so long as I have someone there who can represent me.)
