Plus, you have top speed racing/record setting and drag racing. Even those have classes with limitations per class.

Doesn't drag racing come down to who can time the lights better in equal races?

I don't think so? I think drag racing came from light to light racing, not racing through them. Then, in the 50s there was a bunch of public notice promoting drag racing to reduce the people doing it on the regular streets. That's why you still have some races on traditional streets.
