That doesn't sound legal, though they may have had justification to enter the residence and then anything in plain sight would be fair game.

yeah I guess once the found some pipes or bongs in open sight they say they have justification

I'm not sure if a lost dog is legal justification for entering the house, regardless if it was locked or unlocked.

As far as I know, locked vs unlocked is not material. They either had a right to enter the residence or they did not have the right to enter the residence. The Grateful Dead kinda got it right with their lyrics:

"I'd like to get some sleep before I travel, But if you've got a warrant I guess you're gonna come in."

I don't know what it is, but I envy pretty much everyone else's version of Craigslist. There are almost never any deals in Maine's Craigslist - and we only get one to cover the entire state.

Not that I am buying anything - though I'm kinda tempted. The boys finished up the guitars (they think) and gear (they think) this afternoon. They didn't mind the overtime.

When I was looking to buy a motorcycle a few years back I searched craigslist for 7 0r 8 months before I found a deal on a bike I wanted. Most of the stuff was way over priced.
