Man, I don't know if strings are the most important part of the tone, they age, they break, they get replaced. I would think the pickups and the speakers the sound comes out of are just as important!

None of those things work without strings - and they work better with good strings.

Well maybe when I run out of these strings I will try some 'better' ones and see if they make a difference in the sound. I bought 4 of those 5 packs so it might be a while

It's especially true with acoustic guitars. Strings matter. Today's strings are fucking awesome, by the way.

Also, tension matters - but that's a long topic of discussion. Today's good strings can last a long time, but I seldom take advantage of that. I don't tend to leave the strings on there that long.
