Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Hi guys. I hope you're all sittin' pretty this week. I'm recovering from some self-inflicted work-related injuries. I'm okay, and bonus, I got the house cleaned (mostly).

I don't know if I've ever shared this on this site.

Bodcaw Slide (soundcloud.com)

Awesome jam man!

Clean your room!

[–] 1 pt

I dusted, swept, mopped, then stepped outside to take a break. When I came back in, I tracked dogshit through the house.

[–] 1 pt

I think you might just need to pick the dog shit up

[–] 1 pt

Two things...

The missus is learning slide currently.

I know where Bodcaw is. I've been there when I was on a drunken rampage around the country. More specifically, I was on my way to the post office in Stamps. I figured it'd be funny to buy stamps in Stamps.

Spoiler alert: It was funny as all fuck. At least it was to me.

[–] 1 pt

I've purchased stamps in Stamps as well. I worked at a furniture factory there one summer. That factory eventually moved to Mexico and took a lot of the local economy with it.

Fwiw, Waldo is about 10 miles east of Stamps. So if anyone wants to know "Where's Waldo?"...

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, we have a lot of Waldo things in the US - like Waldo County here in Maine.

I was up in West Alma (as memory serves) looking for spinach when I saw 'Stamps' on the atlas I had with me (a good road atlas, never leave home without one - unless, you know, you're not going very far). So, I meandered down there just to buy stamps.

I was mostly driving around the country at random, inasmuch as we humans can be random (which isn't very random).

But, I'd get bored of one place, hop on the interstate, cross state lines - whichever was next, go a few exits into the state, and then get off the freeway and onto the secondary roads. I spent most of my trip on those types of roads, for this one particular jaunt.

Hello and welcome to yet another FNGT! Like normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

It's Memorial Day weekend. It's not my day. My day is Vet's Day. It's for those who didn't make it, those who gave all. As such, I can think of nothing better than a war protest song. I think this has only been shared once before:

CCR - Fortunate Son (usual suspects) (share.fngt.gq)

Yes, it's perfectly possible - indeed even logical - to mourn the folks who gave all while protesting the very thing that killed them.

So, somber on... I guess? I mean, it's usually rock on, but the holiday is actually meant to be be a somber affair.

[–] 3 pts

You got me singin' along again. Great job, Buddha!

[–] 2 pts

Thanks! It looks like it's from December of 2020, from the local archives. I only recall sharing it once.

Huh... I decided to verify this.

No, it's from June of 2019 and I've shared it a few times (according to the online archives - which are far more accurate than the file's meta data).

[–] 1 pt

Sounds great!

I ain't no fortunate son! I am a fortunate one though! I can not deny that!

[–] 0 pt

Me either! I grew up poor as fuck and needed scholarships/GI Bill to even get to where I am today. I'm definitely one of those folks who worked hard to get where they are.

[–] 2 pts

Loving the song selection!

[–] 1 pt

Glad ya liked it.

I should probably link to another protest song. I will in a second.

that first performance

I aint missing this one! I just got back from a Cancerslug show at a lil dive club. I cant hear and my voice is gone from yelling!

Anyways I got one for tonight. This is a jam I recorded for wikiloops. I found a drum track no one added anything too.

Here is some punk rock for your ears.

BTW I didnt chop this shit up. Played it strait through. ;)

A long, long time ago, I was in a punk band.

[–] 1 pt

Can I get an invite please?

[–] 0 pt

Usually we hand out invites to people who have a history of participating in the threads. For fairly obvious reasons, we're pretty strict.

I checked the archives for your username and am not seeing it anywhere.

[–] 1 pt

No sweat I understand. Gotta keep the Riff Raff out. I don't post much at all I use the site as a news aggregator mostly. But as a musician the thread looked like fun. Best of luck with it

[–] 0 pt

Oh, it is fun. Jump in and join us!

Hell, I can always ban you if you end up being riff raff... One sec...

Try this:

After all, the forum isn't used for much - other than the archives. It started off pretty active, but the activity dwindled and now it's just a place I use to send announcements and for the archives. Lately, @crazy has done the archives for us. (Thankfully.)

My buddy Chris came over earlier this week and my woman sang along with on this here Aerosmith song we played, What it Takes (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

Cool, sounds a lot like Tyler and Perry in their early days!

[–] 1 pt

Thanks!

She suggested we do that one! So she got to sing along!

[–] 0 pt

Prolly sounds like them NOW without all the production gizmos.

[–] 0 pt

Sounds like fun!

[–] 0 pt

It is always fun!

This woman has been living with me here for almost a whole year already!

[–] 0 pt

That's a long time. I've had tons of relationships that didn't make it a full year.

"The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war"

So I heard this song for the first time ever a couple days ago called The Band Played Waltzing Matilda by the Pogues.

It's the best song I ever heard about guys coming back all messed up.

Rock on and Have a good Memorial Day.

[–] 0 pt

You just heard this for the first time a few days ago? How does that even happen?

Also, I am fading rapidly. The wife is already asleep.

[–] 1 pt

I listen to commercial radio till one day I gave up and started listening to jazz then I went to classical and then I went to commercial-free stuff. Switch between those 3 now. Still dig all the hit songs but the commercials get on my nerves.

[–] 0 pt

LOL The song is in like every Vietnam movie ever and was pretty much in the top 20 for the era.

[–] 1 pt

Chris and I jammed out Nirvana's come as you are (soundcloud.com) acoustic guitar style

[–] 0 pt

Nice. That's always a fun song to play. You can pull it off by yourself, but just a guitar and bass player are all you really need to cover most of Nirvana. Well, a drummer helps but isn't needed for a jam session.

Also, what's that a picture of? Your 'album art'? It's grainy and I can't figure out what it is.

[–] 0 pt

That photo is a fly that was found in a jar of olives we had.

[–] 1 pt

Looks like a duck, bent over, looking to the right.

[–] 0 pt

Huh...

I wonder how many olives were eaten with the fly in there?

[–] 1 pt

Just wanted to say thank you. I've never listened or participated but have looked forward to upvoting the one consistent good wholesome thread on voat and here for quite a few years now. Thanks for being cool and providing a break from the misery that surrounds us.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks! We're going on five years soon...

Yeah, that's a long time. It's an even longer time in 'internet years'. There are whole fads that don't even last a 10th of the time. Since starting to do it weekly, we've yet to miss a single Friday, always finding somewhere to hold the thread if the main service provider was out.

If/when Poal dies, we'll likely move on to another site...
