Also, unless I'm off a bit, wouldn't you bump into a large lake first - if you went directly north from your house?

Not until I drove a couple hours in the UP!

Lake Superior would definitely get in the way

Oh, good. I 'membered where you live with some clarity. I was pretty sure there was a giant fucking lake in the way, should you go straight north.

But, you could have been further west than where you are in my head. So, I wasn't really sure.

Either way, those are some big fuckin' lakes. I once drunkenly tried to drive around Lake Erie before I realized it was a great lake. I was trying to get to some chick's house, coming south out of Buffalo, NY. One of her directions was to follow the lake's shore. So, I did that. Alas, it was the wrong lake's shore that I was following.
