Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Hello everybody. This week I have a song here sang by me and my woman and my friend Chris, it's White Stripes song Little Ghost (soundcloud.com)

[–] 2 pts

Now there's a song I haven't heard in a while.

We're also stickied to the front page of Poal this week. I got a mod mail letting me know, so I looked.

[–] 1 pt

Cool. Hope it gets us some more submissions

[–] 3 pts

More participation is welcomed.

People should, if nothing else, at least sing us a song!

(Thanks @AOU for the sticky.)

[–] 1 pt

Cool.

[–] 1 pt

It's also definitely not a song I'd expect from y'all.

[–] 1 pt

I never heard this before. After I listened, I went and checked out the original. Thanks!

[–] 2 pts

It's a cool song.

Reminds me of Verle, cause he claimed to have a ghost that would dance with him and kiss him in his last apartment

[–] 4 pts

Here is a song with my friend Verle singing Something Inside You (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

Whelp... That's entirely new to me.

[–] 3 pts

Yeah I had made up that guitar melody and was thinking I could make a song out of it and played it for Verle and he just immediately starts to singing over it instantly. That's fun!

[–] 2 pts

LOL While it may be fun, if your goal is to be a band - it must be repeatable.

So, he needs to keep track of his lyrics and they have to be the same every time.

That sounds like something he's gonna struggle with.

[–] 1 pt

He rocks the mic!

[–] 2 pts

He sure does. He has some awesome screams and growls

[–] 1 pt

His voice and style---at least from what I gather from your posts---reminds me of an old Vietnam vet I used to buy pot from. He was a helicopter door gunner, just like the "Get some!" guy in Full Metal Jacket. He was really fucked up in the head, but a hell of a lot of fun to party with.

[–] 3 pts

Hi guys, I hope all is well. I just walked in the door from work, and I still have to go feed the cows. Here's a song called

Tail of the Tape (soundcloud.com)

I'll check bacjk in a bit.

[–] 2 pts

It sounds... Angry... It sounds angry and like it's from a ProgRock band from 1968 to 1975.

The thread'll be here all night long, of course.

[–] 3 pts

That's pretty much it. It's not really a song, I just had some room left on the tape. I sort of had an idea, and just like most of the ideas I get, I don't properly complete them. I could've recorded that bass part properly, but wtf the first-take was all I needed to capture the idea.

Anyone wants to, they can take any of my instrumentals and stick words to 'em. Just give me co-credit.

And I've got no problem fleshing the tunes out a bit, if anyone is into online collaboration.

[–] 2 pts

Hmm... I've done some colab with my works in the past. I kinda miss when Nadeshda would put her vocals over my work.

I'm also remarkably interested in music lately - which may seem contrary to my output. I've not done anything new for quite a while - but, at the same time, I'm more excited about music than I've been in a long, long time.

I started a new project, where I take a look at inexpensive guitar equipment. I'm seeing how little you need to invest to get a quality instrument and it's amazing how good cheap gear is these days. I may even start a collection of cheap gear to see how it shapes up.

I paid $170 for a Chibson Les Paul (technically made in Vietnam) and it came with the low E maybe one cent out and an action better than you'll get out of the box with Gibson themselves. The only setup I needed to do was to move the low E less than a 16th of a turn.

On Sunday, I have a used (excellent condition) Fender Mustang LT-25 for like $140 being delivered by FedEx.

Man... The stuff new players have available (for not much money) is amazing.

[–] 1 pt

That was different. I was expecting you to start singing any second all the way through

[–] 1 pt

It needs lyrics. I can come up with melodies all day long, but trying to stick lyrics to 'em messes with my head. For me it's like trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle that's all the same color, and I just say fuck it, and quit.

Some folks can excrete functional lyrics on command. Sadly I'm not one of those people.

[–] 1 pt

I can relate to the jigsaw puzzle comparison.

Hello and welcome to another FNGT! Like sorta-normal, we'll go ahead and get you started.

We're still resting on our laurals, but maybe you'll start getting new stuff once we return to Maine and get settled in for the summer. Still, I have something you've probably not heard much of, it's a live jam, direct from the soundboard at a show at a blues club.

01.17.19 tb and friends jam (share.fngt.gq)

You can tell by the tone that I brought a pretty special Les Paul to the show. Alas, I can't be sure which one it is - but it's definitely older in tone. Fuck, I love that growl. We don't need no stinkin' sax player. I'm actually not 100% certain that it came from the blues club venue. I'd have to go home and check the dates with my old calendars. It might have been rehearsal and the club was played at a couple of months later. Hmm... It's a bit of a mystery... But, if was at my house, I'd have been far more likely to use a valuable/old Les Paul and this one sounds right out of the late fifties. Dunno, I guess - and Biff's not the least bit helpful.

Rock on, Poalr Bears! Rock on!

[–] 2 pts

That guitar does sound a whole lot like a sax. Fucking jazzing it up in here! Sounds great!

[–] 2 pts

That's why I'm pretty sure it was recorded in my little home music room. That sounds like a pretty early Les Paul, I'm thinking late 50s, and there's no way I'd bring that to a show. Now, you can use effects and a humbucker is a humbucker, but it certainly has the distinct sound of something older.

So, a part of me thinks it's something from my little home music room. I can't really be certain.

And, ain't nobody playing a sax that good. ;-)

[–] 0 pt

It sounds wonderful

[–] 1 pt

That's bluesy and jazzy at the same time. Nice mixing of genres.

[–] 1 pt

Man. That's smooth.

Beautiful work, Buddha.

[–] 2 pts

Thanks! It's still kinda a mystery track, but I'm now pretty sure it came from a practice session. Don't quote me on that, however.

[–] 2 pts

Hey y'all. I fucked around with Freight Train by Elisabeth Cotten. Great acoustic guitar play. Timeless. I changed the lyrics.

Kneegrr plz go home (voca.ro)

[–] 0 pt

Awesome. Those old country songs were a lot of people just changing the words to popular songs chord progressions.

That's a brand new song to me! It aint Freight Train anymore!

[–] 1 pt (edited )

That's a real good finger picking tune. It's one of those songs that is hard to stop trying to get it right. Toe tapper too. They call it Travis Picking.

Saw your banjo post. I good banjo song (instrumental) is Washington Square by The Village Stompers. Starts out Banjo & Guitar then goes in Dixieland Jazz. Unique type of song.

[–] 0 pt

I have heard of travis picking somewhere along the way but I am not sure just what it is

[–] 0 pt

Sweet!

Alas, that site is horrible to archive. They delete stuff after like a month, regardless of if people are still using it.

@crazy, if you want you can download and host it elsewhere or just upload it to the forum and link to that. Elsewhere is probably best.

[–] 1 pt

I'm scared to post it on Soundcloud. I get a feeling they'll kick my non-lovin'-nigger ass off there. They gotta be woke.

[–] 0 pt

Meh... Just use 'em to host your music and ignore the rest of the features. If you do that, and don't intentionally bring attention to yourself, you should be just fine.

[–] 0 pt

yeah, it will last longer, I can put it on catbox and it will be there

[–] 0 pt

I figured I'd ping you to it, just to make sure.

[–] 0 pt

@AOU sing us a song, bang on some pots and pans, clap your hands, lets hear something

[–] 1 pt

I might join a next one and play some piano. I actually stream on mumble from time to time.

[–] 0 pt

Here is an original song that I wrote and performed. It's a classic. She's A Whore (soundcloud.com)

[–] 0 pt

I was gonna say that I am not listening due to the time of the day and that we're in bed with the TV on, but I see it's a song I already know.

[–] 0 pt

You remember that one!

It is a memorable song!

[–] 0 pt

I opened a guitar thread, the very first one. You shared the song and said pretty much nothing else.

So, yes, I remember that one.

[–] 0 pt

What the fuck is this

[–] 1 pt

Fucking awesome, is what it is.

Well, it has been pretty tame this Friday, but it's still pretty fucking awesome.
