A long time ago, I was technically homeless - multiple times. I wasn't sleeping on the street, but I couch-surfed and slept on floors a lot. I also spent a number of nights in my car. That was back during my college days. The GI Bill used to really, really suck.

I was without a place and sleeping in my van for a few months sometime many years ago. That was no fun in January

Nope. My car at the time was super shitty. In fact, I think I recall a couple of incidents with different cars. One of them was a shitty Dodge Omni with a broken heater core. I slept in that...

A van with heat would have been luxury - assuming I could at least afford some gas to get it heated up once in a while.

I had heat but I wasn't about to leave it run all night. A few nights I went and slept on a friends couch when it was 20 below zero
