For one thing, being a great guitarist really isn't about playing things that others can not play

Oh, I mean legit not a good guitarist. He didn't know any chords. He didn't know music theory. He just played the notes more or less one at a time. Almost always the blues scale/pentatonic scales. He had a nifty bend and vibrato. He relied on those.

It worked. Nobody else could get away with it. It wasn't original or anything.

Yup. Not very well, but he did sing. Well, not well by 'good vocalist' standards. He sang well enough for it to work with his music.

It's a good thing, too. If he didn't also sing, he'd have never been famous. We'd have never heard of him!
