Still being lazy/uninspired. Still not finding motivation to actually record. Hell, I didn't even upload anything from the archives.
This is a mystery track that has been dubbed Masterclass in Bass. I have no memory of recording it, but assume I must have as it was in with other recorded songs.

Funky. I dig McCartney's bass work on With a Little Help From my Friends. I dig Ramble On bass too. Melodic stuff.
There aren't that many songs where the bass is the prominent instrument. In fact, the mantra for many is that the bass player should do the absolute minimum. I disagree and love the instrument. I'm a classical guitarist, so my approach is a bit different, but i still appreciate the greats.
We should have something new next week. We've been working on it, but lacking motivation.
This is fucking funky man. Very nice work. Reminds me of some of Claypool's work.
Most bands play the bass with the idea that there should be only as much bass as necessary.
In this track, for much of it at least, it was played not entirely unlike a percussion instrument. It's very different from what I normally play and to be confused with 'easy'. While I'm a classical guitarist by training. I can still play most any type of guitar out there and the classical training has not only meant I can play most anything - it has also meant that I had ti dedication to learn and practice with other instruments like the bass.
It's a lot of fun. It's a lot of work - but the rewards are there. The instrument rewards practice. You put your hours in practicing and you get good. Eventually, you get good enough to play most anything.
I've been playing for more than fifty years. If I wasn't good by now, I should just fucking quit trying. I don't have some sort of innate skill. I have countless hours of practicing.
Do you play?
Also, as I don't recall recording it (it was probably just recorded as a lark or for demonstration purposes), it reminds me a bit of Flea. I'd say it's 'better' than most of what Geddy Lee did, but it does remind me of Flea - or the dude from Primus. I forget his name, but he's one hell of a bass player.
Geez. I wish I could do that. I can't even keep a solid 4/4 on bass.
LOL I lived through the funk era of the 1970s!
Honestly, I don't even recall recording it. I assume it was just a quickie in passing or done while intoxicated. Given the quality, it was probably not done drunk. I figure it must have been done to show the missus something and it just happened to get recorded.
It reminds of the soundtrack to the Sega game Toejam and Earl, from the '90s.
Cool bass jam man!
Damned right!
We have the Olympics on, so I'll catch up listening tomorrow morning/early afternoon. I suspect we'll be in bed pretty early tonight. Thanks for opening the thread.
You're welcome!
