Yeah, they don't use those anymore (that I know of). The highways are under constant observation anyhow, but you can put in sensors if you want to collect more precise data.

Oh I suppose you can get speed data and times more accurately now

That and today's computers are so much better.

We had 'secret/proprietary' software. We could take video data, assign a dot to each person, and track that dot through the store with like 95% accuracy. It was worth millions of dollars. These days, it's a plugin in your free video editing software - and it's free. Also, you don't need a full rack of servers to do it. Oh, and the accuracy is higher.
