Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask COF, Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Hello everybody.

And now for something completely different!

Yesterday I was messing around in fuity loops just making some electronica music for some reason. I don't know it sounds like some kind of disco or video game music to me and I can dance to it. Here's what I call Cake (soundcloud.com)

[–] 3 pts

Nice! That stuff is fun to get lost in from time to time

[–] 3 pts

That was five minutes to test if the fucker would let me save anything cause last time it wouldnt, but it is a lot of fun to play with. I can not resist a musical instrument, I think you are like that too.

[–] 3 pts

One of my buddies got Fruity Loops and he said it wouldn’t let him save anything or print it to mp3 until he paid for some upgrade or something. Sounds like they’ve changed it or he just didn’t look hard enough maybe. It was a couple years ago

[–] 2 pts

I see why you said video game.

There's a Cadillac commercial with a guitar lick that sounds like something you'd do.

[–] 0 pt

I don't know what it is but I thought it was interesting and i like it. So hey what the fuck right!

[–] 1 pt

That's different from you. I dig it.

[–] 0 pt

thanks. I was just testing the thing but I thought it sounded cool

[–] 1 pt

Pretty darned good Crazy

[–] 0 pt

Thanks! I like to play with any musical instrument that I encounter. Have fun with it. Why not!

[–] 1 pt

That's the way I try to roll as well. The only one that I'm a complete failure at is drums, the others I'm mildly mediocre.

[–] 1 pt

I like it. Good to hear you trying new stuff.

[–] 5 pts

First up, we have one picked by Biff to share again.

CCR Proud Mary (share.fngt.gq)

Rock on, Poalr Bears! Rock on!

[–] 3 pts

Such a great band.

[–] 3 pts

Damned right!

They had a unique sound.

[–] 2 pts

Woo hoo. Keep on rolling!

[–] 1 pt

Also damned right!

[–] 2 pts

wait for it

[–] 2 pts

Fogerty is one of the ascended ones that made me pick up guitar in the first place. When I was in the 4th grade, my older and uglier brother came home with Green River on cassette. You know how there are some albums that every song fills you with joy?

[–] 2 pts

On my list of things to do before I die is to write a series of articles about albums I can listen to from one end to the other without wanting to stab out an eardrum with an ice pick.

[–] 2 pts

Not many albums that I can listen all the way through and maintain some semblance of sanity . One that I love and can listen to and love every song was... (prepare to be shocked or laugh ) Alan Parsons I Robot.

[–] 1 pt

Nice

[–] 3 pts

CCR, the original members, didn't last that long. They made a lot of great music for such a short time.

[–] 1 pt

Damned excellent cover, another great sing along song....

[–] 0 pt

Glad ya liked it. We've been pulling stuff out of the archives to share, with some ulterior motives of getting things uploaded in one stable location. We also are enjoying the break from creating something new (and usually complicated) every week.

We've been doing this for like 3.5 years now.

[–] 3 pts

How the hell have I been missing this?

[–] 3 pts

Happy you have found us. This here is really the best thing on the internet in the year 2021. You can search far and wide and you will find nothing like this anywhere.

I hope you enjoy our music and I also hope you share some of your own!

Welcome!

Hey man, I just played this for my friend Verle and Chris and Chris really got into it he loved the video too. Thanks for coming in and sharing with us! I love it! Sounds real cool man!

[–] 2 pts

Sounds good man. Super chill

[–] 3 pts

I’ve been pretty busy lately, but did have time to finish up a cover I had started on a while back. It’s Creep by Radiohead

https://soundclick.com/r/s8gg9r

[–] 2 pts

Good job, you really own it with the vox.

[–] 2 pts

That was perfect

My friend Chris says he came

just keep doing what you're doing!

he says he loves the way the bass makes his organs vibrate!

[–] 2 pts

Haha nice. I still need to listen in my truck where the subs are, but it had my monitors thumping pretty well

[–] 2 pts

Verle said makes him feel like a dirty old man LoL

[–] 2 pts

Absolutely OUTSTANDING cover ! Bravo

[–] 0 pt

Thanks Carl! It is such a great song, so it was really nice to stumble across the project file and realize I hadn’t ever finished it. I enjoyed every second!

[–] 1 pt

Very impressive Sir, I really enjoyed it

[–] 0 pt

Good to see you're still around. Hope all is well with you and yours. Maybe next week you can bless us with another of your great tunes.

[–] 1 pt

I've got a new song all recorded, I just have to quit being my worst critic and release it.

[–] 1 pt

ok Holy Shit! is that live drums or a machine? What's your recording setup?

[–] 0 pt

I did this a while back when I had my drummers spare practice kit set up at my house, so I took full advantage haha. It’s at a different rehearsal space now, so I’ve been messing with programming drums a little bit more recently.

My setup is pretty simple really. I’ve got a 24 channel Soundcraft desk with some presonus A/D converters, and a Universal Audio Apollo interface. I’ve got a ton of mics, guitars, cabs, tube amps, instruments in general, and a few cool mic preamps and Neve channel strips out of an old VR console. I typically mic cabs in my basement, and do my tracking in my spare room which has basic sound treatment and my mixing desk. I use Yamaha HS8 monitors and Beyerdynamic T1’s for mixing. Other than that, I use Reaper (also have Logic and Harrison Mixbus) into an old ‘12 MacBook Pro I upgraded; and have spent a lot of time over the last 2.5 years studying audio production trying to get decent at recording and mixing.

[–] 1 pt

Your voice is so nice and with the added production values I'm always glad you share with us. Pro quality all the way.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks COF. I’m really happy I took the plunge into recording a few years ago, and I honestly owe it all to this wonderful thread for pushing me over the hump to actually buy an interface and the software to start doing it.

[–] 1 pt

You definitely have much to offer to the world so keep doing it. Your vocals especially have a quality of expression that needs to be nurtured and shared, thanks for doing so.

[–] 2 pts

We have another one to share, just to keep things going. This one was also picked by Biff and has the unique quality of having been played entirely by her.

Bob Dylan - Blowing In The Wind (share.fngt.gq)

All of these have been pulled from the archives, which we legitimately would not have had @COF not saved them. So, a special thanks goes out to him for the effort.

"Whoa. I was really bad back then." That's Biff's thought on the above linked track. It's true, she was pretty bad back then. She has come a long, long ways. Maybe next week we'll have something new that demonstrates that. Maybe... Maybe not...

[–] 2 pts

Back in my folkie days this was an oft requested song. Outstanding cover Mrs. Biff !

[–] 0 pt

She says to say thanks and that she's glad you liked it.

[–] 1 pt

I'm always impressed by her abilities and more than a little jelly.

[–] 1 pt

She certainly has progressed but this isn't as bad as she thinks. There's plenty of people that have played longer than her and still haven't reached this level of expression.

[–] 0 pt

As she said yesterday, "It's such a simple song and it's full of little mistakes."

Indeed, it is full of little mistakes. For the time she'd invested at that point, it was pretty good. She's come a long, long ways since then. These days, she could play it flawlessly - multiple times in a row, and in front of people - getting it flawless on the first attempt.

If she sticks with it for a few decades, she could be even better than I am.

[–] 2 pts

My friend Anna just wrote a song last year! She wanted me to share. Cheers guys! It is my favorite of her songs.

[–] 1 pt

Can we hear her sing it?

[–] 3 pts
[–] 3 pts

Outstanding voice! great acoustic cove BRAVO !

[–] 2 pts

Here is a submission more like the usual you hear from me, here are me and my friends playing America's Horse with no name (soundcloud.com)

[–] 1 pt

Love ya bro, but I've always just hated that song LOL

[–] 0 pt

Thats all good, reminds me of how I feel when the doors come on

[–] 2 pts
[–] 2 pts

LOL

When performing said song, I've been known to change the lyrics to "Rolling up a jibber."

There's your fun factoid for the day.

[–] 2 pts

is a jibber a blunt?

[–] 1 pt

A joint.

Not necessarily a blunt.

On that note: I am gone for the night.

[–] 2 pts

Howdy y'all. I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. I got 15 hours of OT this week, and I've been saving for that zero-turn radius mower. Almost there.

I got another Frank Black and the Catholics tune. That was a fine bar band that the Pixies front man put together while they were on hiatus.

New House of the Pope (soundcloud.com)

[–] 3 pts

Cool tune! Very haunting

[–] 2 pts

Thanks. I'm not much of a guitarist or a singer, but playing and singing makes me feel right, and when better musicians tell me they like it, it's icing on the cake.

[–] 1 pt

That was fucking awesome man!

[–] 2 pts

Thanks, I recorded it 5 times before I got an acceptable whistle solo.

The original (youtu.be) is glorious.

[–] 1 pt

Here is Leonard Cohen song sang by Verle and Chris and myself, we're not sure what it means halleluiah (soundcloud.com)

[–] 2 pts

One of my favorite songs .... Well done gentlemen !

[–] 0 pt

Thank You Carl!

[–] 1 pt

He originally wrote 80 verses to this song but narrowed it down to 4 for the recording. Halleluiah basically means "Joyfully praise the Lord" but he extended that beyond the religious meanings. Cohen said:

“This world is full of conflicts and full of things that cannot be reconciled,” Cohen has said, “but there are moments when we can transcend the dualistic system and reconcile and embrace the whole mess, and that’s what I mean by ‘Hallelujah.’ That regardless of what the impossibility of the situation is, there is a moment when you open your mouth and you throw open your arms and you embrace the thing and you just say, ‘Hallelujah! Blessed is the name.’…

“The only moment that you can live here comfortably in these absolutely irreconcilable conflicts is in this moment when you embrace it all and you say, ‘Look, I don’t understand a fucking thing at all – Hallelujah!’ That’s the only moment that we live here fully as human beings.”

Even though I don't care much for Rolling Stone they do have a good write up on the song:
