That one event may have changed everything from that point on in your life if they had thrown you in prison

Yup. I'd have definitely not ended up here in a ritzy hotel, with a lovely bride and no worries about anything.

It's a damned good thing it worked out the way it did!

I'd probably be dead from a drug overdose if that had happened. I'd have ended up a slob, addicted to probably opiates, unable to find meaningful employment, and eventually just nailed myself with a hot-shot, either on purpose or by accident.

All things considered, paying the financial penalties was the best possible outcome from t he situation.
