This is a song I have been working on the last couple days for a mix contest. It’s not my playing on anything. I re-amped the guitars and bass, but the band supplied the DI tracks. It’s called Turning Point by Dark Time Collaboration
This kicks ass! Love the thunderous sound of those drums!
Thanks Reems, Glad to see you around man! The drums gave me some interesting obstacles as the kick had a lot of hihat bleed that sounded terrible when trying to get the click of the beater to stand out. I ended up figuring out how to trigger it with a sample kick, so I could augment the high end. Took some time, but that’s a skill I’m happy to now have. I added 3 different reverb aux tracks for the snare to try and make it sound huge haha.
Normally, if I wanted to kill a hi-hat bleed on a kick while augmenting the hi end, I'd probably use a multiband compressor at that frequency to try to kill the hat. What did you sidechain to the sample kick?
Cool. Pretty heavy rock here man! Sounds good to me. Nice mix
Thanks. It’s some collab from guys from Kaos AD, Madball, and a couple other bands I’m not familiar with. I enjoy mixing a lot though, so any chance I get to work with other peoples stuff is generally fun.
What are you going to win?
There's definitely some skills there. The recording is done well.
Thanks for listening! Yeah mixing is not the same art form as performing at all, as it’s much more craft based; but I do get to express a bit of art with the additional elements and sound manipulation to try and keep attention in certain places, and move the listener from one part to the next. It’s a challenging craft, but very rewarding when it starts coming together.
Nice job on the mix and kudos to the band
Thanks for listening uncle carl. I don’t know if they plan on touring at some point or if it was just a little project to pass the time; but I had fun mixing it regardless
I was very much impressed by the tunes you put out here .. Great songs, well written, perfectly arranged .. You're one talented human .. Bravo !
