Once again, it's time for the FNGT!

If you don't know how this works, click this link (fngt.gq). That link will take you to another site to give you some additional information and tell you about some of our off-site features. That's also the site where we will host the weekly guitar threads, should Poal go down.

NOTE: That site is by invitation only. If you want an invite, and you're a regular participant, then just ask COF, Crazy, or myself.

If you do know what's going on, you probably don't need to click that link - but you may want to, to make sure you know of the other features, such as the archive or a separate forum that's invite only.

Remember, we are guests here on Poal. Let's act like it. If you're interested in supporting Poal, then you can donate.

Hello and welcome to another FNGT! Like normal, we'll get you started!

This track was one that has been in the works for quite a while. Then, Voat was closing - so we put a rush on it. Alas, we had enough tracks at the ready, so this doesn't get released until today. But, it'd have been rather fitting for the last FNGT on Voat.

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same (B L; J K; TB B, R, & P) (share.fngt.gq)

Pay careful attention to the notation in the file name. Biff managed to learn that in time for us to release this track for New Years. That is my wife, in whom I am well pleased!

Rock on, bears! Rock on!

[–] 4 pts

Another of my personal favorites. I never got to see Zep. I had tickets to see them in New Orleans in '77, but on the way down, we learned that Robert Plant's son had passed earlier that day, and the show was cancelled. However, I was at an Umphrey's McGee show a few years ago, and they ended their show with a spot-on version of this.

[–] 2 pts

It seemed like a good song to do with the fact that Voat was going down. We did have it planned earlier, but the demise put a rush on it. Still, it got done well enough - I think.

[–] 4 pts

Dude, that's a nice cover.. !!!

[–] 1 pt

Thanks, glad you liked it. It's best with good headphones.

[–] 4 pts

Great work as usual. Is Biff doing all the mixing?

[–] 1 pt

Indeed, she does almost all the mixing. Sometimes I stand over her shoulder and give sound suggestions but she pokes all the buttons.

It's also her on lead.

[–] 3 pts

She’s doing a great job. The guitar playing, mixing, etc. has really come along nicely.

[–] 3 pts

Oh hell yes!! This was one of my favorite songs to play. We did the version where it immediately slides into Celebration Day.

Another stupendous recording. Biff doing lead on this is fantastic, she is getting so damn good. As always J's keys are spot on, and your bass and drum work just perfect. Plus +1 +1 +1 (isn't that what the kids say nowadays?).

[–] 1 pt

I think so, if they're giving reviews.

It's best with headphones and the great thing is the speed with which Biff learned the lead. That's a sign of progress.

[–] 3 pts

This sounds like you stole the master recordings and took Robert Plant out of the mix!

Incredible!

[–] 2 pts

Glad ya liked it. The lead was done by Biff, actually.

[–] 2 pts

Tell her I loved it!

[–] 3 pts

Fantastic! Biff sure can play that thing. Amazing after only two years. Girl's got some tremendous skills.

Zeppelin is always frustrating when you hear them because you wanna sing along but you can't.

[–] 1 pt

LOL They're a fun band to cover and she managed to learn this one pretty quickly. I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly she learned it.

[–] [deleted] 5 pts

Well I made it, here's a tune https://voca.ro/16RlRv3HgGMb

[–] 2 pts

Vocals sound like you could be in Megadeth :)

[–] 2 pts

I like it.
Sounds like Seattle to me.
Soulful and grungy.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

It's mid 90's Canadian alternative though but that same era pretty much, maybe even our interretation of grunge, I always considered them just an alternative band though but this is definitely one of their heavier grungier songs.

[–] 2 pts

Nice work Mustard!

[–] 1 pt

Glad to see you made it.

That's Our Lady Peace, right?

(And, you got it in the right thread this time!)

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Yup, it's our lady peace. I had this album back when it just came out, and when I was driving out fishing either clumsy or 4am came on the radio, and then I had this song stuck in my head all day.

I havn't actually listened to it in many years, still didnt tonight when I learned it. I just read the chords n lyrics and it was all there. Thats how you know a song is a good song.

I might learn the one I heard on the radio too if I can manage to slow down on the whiskey, I think its 4am, the "walked around my room not thinking" one.

I'm also tempted to try mary mac b y great big sea, but I think I need to speed up the liquor for that one not slow it down.

Also didn't vocaroo go away for a while or something? it was the only free site I could find to post to.

[–] 1 pt

Glad to see ya. What is the name of this song?

Here's a list Buddha put together of hosts. It's over on the FNGT site also.

[–] 1 pt

Clyp went away as a free service.

Most folks are doing HulkShare at the moment - or at least were.

As always, I'm sure COF will set you up with an account if you'd like.

[–] 1 pt

We're all listening to this. Love the screaming. Verle says you need to sing more from your gut. Cool tune man.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Thanks and Ya I have like an internal shyness, I'm working through it though, I do hold back a lot though.

[–] 5 pts

I am also a mediocre guitar player. Although I don't have anything recorded, I will work on an acoustic thing I wrote this week and try to get it down for next week. It has vocals which are not my strong suit.

[–] 3 pts

Just remember, we have low standards!

If it wasn't for low standards, we wouldn't have any standards at all!

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

I ice fished all day came home, made supper then learned and recorded a song all in under one cup of scotch.

[–] 2 pts

Damn man...we all though a bear ate you. Good to see you. And where the hell have you been?

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

No big black bunnies gonna take out the Mustard,

[–] 5 pts

Merry New Year everyone! I hope you're all having a great year so far. It's bound to just get better, right?

About 25 years ago, a friend would come over to the house, and we would put a blank 120 in the boom box and hit Record. One of us would play a few notes, then the other would add a few notes, just to see what we could build out of thin air. Most of the time it was crap, but sometimes something interesting came out of it.

This is Play In To Hear (soundcloud.com) by Courtney's Love Hole, recorded live as it was fleshed out, and never performed again. (I'm on the second guitar.)

[–] 3 pts

Man I forgot about Hole. I really liked the Live Through This album a lot. Well I went to school in Olympia... haha

[–] 2 pts

She disappeared after Kurt quit the music business and Geffen determined he was worth more dead than alive. They had a daughter...I read an article a few years back that made me think she wasn't quite right.

[–] 3 pts

Yeah she was quite a train wreck for years. Hopefully she’s doing better now.

[–] 3 pts

That's really cool. Real good riff. Toe tapper.

[–] 2 pts

Most of the time it was crap, but sometimes something interesting came out of it.

That sums up so many jam sessions and jam bands.

I am actually unfamiliar with this song, though I do know who she is. I maybe have heard it before and just forgotten.

[–] 3 pts

Not Courtney Love's Hole.

Courtney's Love Hole. It's what we called our improv sessions.

[–] 2 pts

Ah, okay... I thought I didn't recognize it. LOL

[–] 2 pts

This one seems to sound better as it goes

[–] 2 pts

I know right, it really didn't even start to make a song till about 1:15, then about 2:00 it started feeling like something real.

[–] 4 pts (edited )

Happy new year gents & (biological) ladies!

For this Friday, I will have to doxx myself because the tune I want to share is lost to me on my home computers because when I wrote and produced and recorded it, I wasn't smart enough to have a backup hdd, and a virus destroyed my computer.. If I hadn't uploaded it online I would have lost this one too.

Happy new year, & enjoy! (showcaseyourmusic.com)

I will resubmit my last Friday's GT submission. So far I have a grand total of 2 finished tunes, and many ideas for many more. https://soundcloud.com/user-481656111/frozen-solstice

[–] 2 pts

Super chill track. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing man.

[–] 3 pts

I submitted two tracks in one comment. Listen to the first one too

[–] 2 pts

Nice dude! Very different from the second haha. I record wildly eclectic music myself so I dig it.

[–] 1 pt

There's also a copy in the archives on FNGT.GQ in Forums if you need it. I archive all the tracks submitted to the FNGT over there.

[–] 2 pts

Wha really? :):) I been trying to figure out all these years to to download it from the site I uploaded to!

[–] 1 pt

Also, if you're using windows I can show you how to record it while it's playing on a site.

[–] 1 pt

I should have been more accurate. A copy of the link is there, not the actual track.

[–] 1 pt

I am not a huge fan of electronic music, but others here will love it I'm sure.

[–] 3 pts

& that's ok, but i submitted two tracks. The first one's all guitars

[–] 1 pt

Ah, I only listened to the second one. I seldom listen to more than one track per post, unless the thread is really slow.

[–] [deleted] 4 pts

Auld Lang Syne (vocaroo.com) on electronic practice bagpipe. Happy new year.

[–] 2 pts

How similar are the electronic pipes to regular pipes - as far as playing them goes?

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Not much at all. The one I have is just a stick with metal contacts where the holes would be. No bag under my arm, no drones on my shoulder, no mouth piece. Don't have to worry about tone rising and falling because I'm not using air, which is a significant part of the challenge of sounding any good on pipes. The metal contacts stick out, so they're much easier to find and don't require as finicky of fingering position as the holes on the real chanter.

It feels like cheating to present music I play on it, really, so I haven't done it much. But I can't play the full pipes at home, either, and I didn't want to share nothing today because I couldn't round up the family and get them to the park.

[–] 2 pts

Well, I still appreciated it.

[–] 4 pts

I'm glad to see you're still doing this, one day when I'm not so pissed about everything I'll play some Ulor for you guys live.

[–] 3 pts

Maybe if you shared music you'd be less pissed?

Either way, we've been at this for like 3.5 years. We'll be here for a while longer. I don't see the thread stopping any time soon. It's bigger than any one of us, so it should still keep going.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

Well one more for you guys, this is a duet, I'd love to re-do it with a female, Deshy would be perfect is she around here? We mentioned it before but then I disappeared. She would literally be the perfect female voice for it. I did the best I could(not good at all)

Anyways here is My love forevermore, originally by The Hillbilly Moon Explosion Featuring Sparky from Demented are Go. https://vocaroo.com/1aG539jKIGRW

[–] 1 pt

I don't know that one and she hasn't come over - yet. She had some reservations about coming to Poal, but didn't elaborate in public. So, for the time being, she appears to be the only guitar thread regular that has been left behind.

She does have a forum account and there's a slim chance you could get her attention there.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

That sucks, she would be the perfect fit to do it right. you should check out the original, you should actually just checkout the band Hillbilly moon explosion they have some really cool songs. They also do Jackson together

[–] 1 pt

The first link was to a song called Depression. It's not terrible and Biff seems to like it.

I'm also a sucker for double bass.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

I like the dynamics of the song, its a murder ballad between 2 outlaws, he wants to give it up and just live together, she wants more. She starts with 1 line, then 2 lines then a whole verse then he gets the last verse as she kills him and he swears his love to her. It's like a Murder ballad duet where she is taking over.

[–] 1 pt

If I can get her attention, I'll send her this way.

I'll try to do that now.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

I talked to Deshy already, next week look forward to a proper version of this and maybe even Deshys return.

[–] 1 pt

Excellent! She's the only one that regularly participated that hasn't yet shown up here. I think...

[–] 1 pt

Nice, doing some falsetto. It's good to stretch yourself, I hadn't heard that from you before.

Archive copy https://www.hulkshare.com/chae57xcqwow

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Hey COF, could you set me up an account somewhere like you did before? I know you don't like vocaroo for archiving and I would love to make your life easier.

Falsettos hard for me, I'm trying to learn a bit of yodeling so I call it my yodel voice, it's hard and not natural for me at all, the raspy dirty stuff is more along my normal voice then anything I really ever try to sing. I have a dirty and low voice I always have and I'm working really hard to change it. I'm probably a baritone but there's a tenor in me somewhere. I'm sure you remember how low I sang when I started, I actually tuned my guitar down so much my A string was an E, now I can sing falsetto and hide my rasp like 80% most of the time.

[–] 1 pt

I'd be glad to set up a Hulkshare (hulkshare.com) account for you but it's really easy. They don't ask for an email or anything, just an account name and make a password. It's a little clunky to use at first but you'd figure it out quickly.

I appreciate you wanting to do so but I don't mind archiving. Since I don't play anymore, but still remember the thrill, it's the least I can do for all you who are playing.

[–] 3 pts

🤣😂

[–] 2 pts

throws horns

[–] 3 pts

is this some form of a wilderness simulation of a violent attack throwing moose horns at a wandering and vulnerable victim?

[–] 2 pts

The universal 'rock on' kinda throwing horns.

Devil horns, though I don't actually believe in a devil, is what some folks call 'em.

[–] 3 pts

Since I had a short day yesterday and today off I decided to try and write another song. This one ended up sounding a bit melancholy, but it’s really about getting to the good part of life. I call it Wild Flowers.

https://soundclick.com/r/s8fpgz

[–] 2 pts

Man, your voice is so freakin' great and easy to listen to. Excellent track, really enjoyed. Every time I listen to one of your tracks on Soundclick it auto plays You Send Me and then Michelle and I always end up listening to both again.

[–] 2 pts

Thanks COF. Yeah it’s supposed to allow me to set the track list but it’s been glitchy the last few weeks so it just auto adds my new song right above You Send Me every time.

[–] 2 pts

Believe me, I ain't complaining they are excellent.

[–] 2 pts

So I played this one for Verle and his new girlfriend and they both been singing along to song after song of yours here, were hearing Tennessee whiskey right now and all these love songs with them singing them to each other is kind of too mush

[–] 1 pt

For some reason, it's kinda fuzzy. I have no idea why. I suspect it's something to do with compression. I have rather high quality speakers hooked up to the laptop. It was still fuzzy - but that's probably on my end.

[–] 3 pts

That’s weird. I’ll have to give it a listen. I left headroom on the track just in case the streaming crushes it, but I’ll check it out.

[–] 2 pts

It may just be me. A few of the others were fuzzy and this isn't the first time.

I think the Chrome browser has some audio bugs in it with Linux. It's just certain tracks/sites.

[–] 3 pts (edited )

This week I'd like to feature a young woman of amazing skills many will know as Biff, TheBuddha's wife and resident covergirl (lucky bastard). She started out in the FNGT known as EH (Eldest Hoodlum).

This awesome woman has only been playing a little over 2 years now and in that time has become an outstanding guitarist, bassist, and audio engineer. She mixes and masters all of The Biff and TheBuddha Band tracks you hear in the FNGT. She also performs and does the master sound/boardwork for their regional live band.

Under TheBuddha's tutelage she quickly assumed the dedication of hours of daily practice, and the results are evident. She had adopted the idea of a quote by Freddie Mercury - "I won't be a Rock Star. I will be a Legend" - and, in my book, she already is.

So let's get started with a track by her she composed and performed barely 6 months after picking up a guitar.

Midterm (clyp.it)

Oh, she does enjoy roses being thrown.

🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

[–] 2 pts

This tune kicksass

[–] 1 pt

Obviously I think so too. It's both amazing and a testament that, for her, that after only 6 months she not only can perform it but composed it as well. This speaks to the dedication she continues to put into daily practice. It didn't happen by accident.

[–] 1 pt

If only 6 months it means she's got talent for ittoo

[–] 1 pt

Also, intro text has been altered. Not by much, just a pound symbol.

[–] 2 pts

Thanks, saved.

[–] 1 pt

It just turns the first line into a headline, but it looks nicer. So, we might as well run with it.

@crazy should know to check the forum when he gets time.

I suspect I will not be here all that late tonight.

[–] 1 pt

She says thanks and then threw horns.

It's too bad I don't know a damned thing about video.

[–] 1 pt

Your wife is so fucking cool
