But, I might have been imbibing and I've got a question for you...

What is your New Years Resolution?

Mine? Mine is the same as it always is. I resolve to not confuse other drivers by driving both backwards and forwards at the same time.

I never fail that. I've made the same resolution since the late 80s. I always keep it!

What do you guys do, listen to recordings you've made yourself?

Yup. We try to share something new once a week, shoot the shit, keep up with each other's lives, talk business, and enjoy the creations made by our peers.

We've been at it for like 3.5 years now.

We've been preparing/ready for Voat's demise for quite a while. So, we were fairly well preserved and managed to make a great transition here. We had the infrastructure to let everyone know, the time to do so, and the logistics to host two giant guitar threads in as many days.

I'm pretty happy with the guitar cabal and all the work they put in to make the thread happen.

Just keep playing regularly. That's probably the best thing I can do to get better.

There is no replacement for putting your hours in at diligent practice.

There's a difference between playing and practicing. Playing only kinda sucks after a while. Practicing almost always sucks. You do it 'cause you have to.

I pretty much always resolve to keep trying to not do the stuff I don't like that I do, and keep trying to do more of the stuff that I like I do. I never hold onto an idea and wait to start it for the new year. Kinda boring that way, but it's an excuse off the list for whenever I see something I should change.

That's kinda how I live my life.

Every day should be the best day ever. If it isn't the best day ever, do something different. Repeat that until the day is the best day ever.

It's remarkably successful.

It helps being retired and not having young children. It was still possible while working and while raising children.

I'm using up all my thinking power trying to figure out what to get myself and my kid for Christmas because the family all sent money instead of stuff, too.

I’ve been able to curb my amp and guitar spending in 2020 by a lot; but man did my plugin/studio hardware spending skyrocket. I’d like to make a full record of originals this year. I just wrote a third song (for said record) yesterday and I’ll share the initial mix in the thread tonight.

I am still planning on doing a dedicated studio as an outbuilding on the property.

Nice. I’ve been talking to a close friend about building a studio as well. His property has an old boat hanger/shop that would be more than adequate to build out.

I'll just do a new purpose-built structure and then outfit accordingly.

The biggest drawback is then I'd have a real studio on the property. I know the kind of people who are attracted to such a thing.

I'm too depressed and demoralized to play anymore. I was gigging with 4-5 bands at least once a week til March. I have a house full of gear that is just collecting dust, all over a common cold variant that 99.7% of people will not be affected by. Our ancestors, who crossed mountains, oceans, and deserts, enduring hardships we cannot even imagine, must be spinning in their graves.

Equip my office to double as a guitar space. All my gear is packed around various parts of my house currently... then get a recording setup hooked up

When I had my house built, I had a large room built in for my music gear.

When we remodeled and added a media room I had ot sound proofed so it seemed the logical place to keep my gear. However... have young kids and I'm concerned ablut them accidentally messing with my nicer gear, so everything is usually packed away and a hassle tp get out of cases to play

Office is a better 'off limits' space for them to respect and to keep things out of arms reach
