Today, we begin a new chapter of the Friday Night Guitar Thread. It may seem drastic, but it's just another bump in the road. The FNGT will live on, as it is greater than any one of us and any one website. Come share some music that you made. Come talk musicianship and the things that surround it. Share the tracks you finished, those you're working on, and maybe some from your archives.

Remember, many of you will be new to Poal. As yet, you're still guests - until you truly participate. Let us act like it. Let us act in a way that makes Poal glad to have us and that makes their regulars feel welcome in our threads.

Finally...

Instead of lamenting the past, let's look forward to our future. We, unlike many, had the infrastructure to get the messages out and had a place prepared for this eventuality. Well, that time has come and we have a new home. Let's ride 'er 'til the wheels fall off.

Mixing must be painfully slow on that old CPU. Do you at least have an internal SSD?

I'm a Linux user, as is the wife, so we have far fewer selections. Our bigger projects are put together in BItwig.

I've got an iMac from 2009. It's not th mac pro in which you could swap out components. No SSD. I did max out the ram on the machine now. Runs as it did when it was new, after the ram upgrade. But I'm at least 2 Os updates behind. Can't force the machine anymore without suffering losses I guess.

I don't know about mixing, but I can have ~10-12 tracks all at once, and tracks that I don't use at the moment I can 'freeze' and that frees up resources.

You can def replace the drive with an SSD

Have you tried Linux on it?

It'll probably work. I leave it alone, and have the kids learn how to code with Linux on am older laptop
