Sounds like we should open up this discussion to see if other Poalrs can help come up with a way we could get this stone made ourselves and avoid dealing with companies who don't approve of the message or the man. I can certainly do what I can to try out the laser on some stone to see how well the engrave and fill method can work. My laser has a max object size of 20"x12" and a height of only 3" so that kind of leaves us with smallish stone slabs. I'll see if I can get some granite or slate and see if it works out.
We'll need to touch base with @Theodore_Kent to figure out the logistics for Suplex's family. The hard part will be where we make this happen but keep all of our identities safe and secure in the process. I don't want anyone getting doxxed or worse from this.
I believe you can buy fairly thin stone stock to experiment with. Heck, a stone merchant might have scrap pieces of different rock for free that can be used to test different etching/painting methods.
Do you have a thickness limit on your laser set-up?
Stone merchant! Kek Nvm me... it just sounded funny..
I'll check around town for stone suppliers who might give or sell me off-cuts to test with. Countertop thickness pieces should work with my laser's thickness limit of around 3". I might also try masking off the stone, cutting the mask in-situ, removing the unnecessary bits and hitting it with some muriatic acid or whatever I can find that might dissolve the stone. We'll see how that goes.
Sounds like a plan! Wish I were there. I love new process development and have always wanted to try working with lasers since studying optics in college physics. I'd learn a lot. The closest I got to it was trimmable termination resistors at wafer level.
Good idea, field the best ideas and run some experiments to find what works.
He hasn't answered phone in a few days. Sometimes we play phone tag, but I hope he's alright
That's not good. He hasn't had any activity on Poal in 9 days either. Hopefully he is just taking a breather and will pop back in soon.
Hes good. Only talked a minute at work though. Now we're playing phone tag again
