I believe that when the advance of technology and government made men less responsible, so followed women. But can one live a modern life and not fall for the short-term """fun""" with long-term consequences? I think the number one issue is entertainment, it's crazy to think about how random movie and series actors influence the thinking of your average person, emotionally susceptible teenagers and kids included. Then again, books are "out-of-home" influence as well, yet I would like to think they originally have been approved stories and usually written by scholars.
