But biology is a dynamic system where an organism starts in a particular state and grows through life and through development with multiple systems interacting.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them to produce an example of a mammal that changes its sex during life. The sex of mammals is chromosomally determined and does not change from conception to death.

In the broader arena of all life, sexual reproduction is always dimorphic (there are two sexes) and once evolved it is never renounced (i.e. once an organism evolves sexual reproduction, they do not revert to asexual reproduction). There are some strange instances, such as female lizards that, in the absence of male partners, can reproduce effectively clones of themselves (which are all female) and some species of fish that can change from female to male if the male of their group dies, however the sex of fish is not chromosomally determined, it is determined by temperature. A significant factor here is that while a few species can change from male to female. They are always either one or the other, they do not change into some third gender, or something in-between (though they may briefly transit between the two states). Sexually reproducing animals are bimodal, there is always a female gamete (large and low mobility) and a male gamete (smaller and high mobility).

Scientific American is no longer a serious publication. It has been entirely captured by the woke Marxist ideology. It is beyond saving and should be abandoned entirely and left to rot.

You are correct. Truth doesn't matter. Facts don't matter. Biology doesn't matter. The "journal" is now just an echo chamber of the gas lighting going on today. You can no longer take anything it writes as scientific truth, but mental illness gas lighting.
