They didn't fight for any good reason. They were tricked into seeing uk as an enemy by an actual enemy.

All of which can be absolutely true, and yet still, at the same time, matter not even one tiny little bit. How we got where we are is only of interest (or even of passing note) in hindsight.
Don't be the guy who drives off the road and wrecks the car because he's more worried about what's behind him in the rearview mirror, than he is about the fact that, at some point, the steering wheel has become unresponsive.
This is where we are now. Don't sweat the piss-ants when the elephants are stampeding. And most especially don't sweat the past piss-ants.
We observe them in our history so that we are forewarned.
I have yet to see anyone heed any warnings based on historical data. You can warn till you are blue in the face, and they will continue to march. 20 years ago I was in a position to warn people in the US.gov of what was going to happen in AFG. I did so. And all of the collected wizards of smart in Arlington, Foggy Bottom and McLean assured us all right up until August of this year that what was clearly happening never would. And it was exactly what I had warned of, with mathematical precision, for the last 20 years. Forewarnings only have value if they are heeded. No one ever does.
