I have not been well for the past year, and since I was sick of TV, I decided to try to find some video games. I really haven't played in years and wanted to see what was out there. I looked around Steam and other places and couldn't find anything. I saw this older game called Fallout 4. It looked pretty good so I got it. Incredible game, but as an older guy you start to make observations. May be spoilers, but since the game is old I don't think that's a big deal.

The game setting is post apocalyptic Boston. The settlers are a pathetic lot of mixed race mongrels and drug addicts that don't have the intelligence to plant their own food or even build a shack without help. They complain about anything they have to do. The city is dominated by big green thugs, which are like inner city gangs. Green is the new black I guess. Also ghouls swarm you, you know, like the homeless do now.

There are these factions of mostly White people. There is the Minute Men, which I refer to a the MAGA men. They walk around with wind up muskets and talk about how great they were, and are perpetually waiting for someone to fix everything for them. They are the "survivors" of the Quincy Massacre, yeah, survivors. There is the Brotherhood of Steel who horde technology and slaughter the subhumans. Basically a military cult. There is the Railroad, a liberal group that is smuggling android immigrants into the population. They reprogram their minds with new memories and they lose all identity of who they were. There is The Institute, which is kind of like DARPA, who has worked with every corporation in the world to experiment on the population with bio warfare and psychological experiments. Probably why Black gangs are green and homeless are pink. There is Vault-Tec, who promised to protect survivors in vast underground radiation proof vaults, but instead used the trapped people to perform bizarre and cruel experiments on them.

Fun game, but I don't see how it has anything to do with reality. OTOH My wife put milk in the bowl before her cereal. You know who does that? A Synth. ;)

I've played all of the Fallout games except Fallout 76. Fallout 4 was disappointing because the rest of the series is better. FO3 was more interesting to wander around. But I prefer the Stalker games anyway.

76 is beautiful, but I hate it. There are too many distractions with the multi player and ads to sell stuff.

Yeah, that looks interesting. Thanks.

FO3 is such a great game, one of the few first person/rpg games that keeps my attention. Agree about FO4 even though I put a lot of time into that as well. Didn't even bother with Fallout 76 either. Haven't played the Stalker series but I'll keep an eye out for the next one coming out

I highly recommend trying Call of Pripyat. Shadow of Chernobyl (Original Stalker) is my personal favorite, but the graphics are dated even with texture/shader mods. Call of Pripyat looks better and is the most stable in the series. Stalker 2 does look very good though. Hopefully they reuse areas from SoC.

Alright thanks for the recommendation I'll check it out. More of a strategy nerd though love me some HOI4 and total war games.

The BoS did nothing wrong. Also, the lack of Bruins references was pretty gay. Not even a hockey stick melee weapon or a puck gun.

Your first mistake was playing a Bethesda Fallout instead of real Fallout.

Bethesda is buggy alright. You can't get through a game without console commands. What is real Fallout?

My issue is that the whole first half of the game is finding your son. Once you find him you see he's the head of the institute. Then the game assumes for some reason you might decide to choose to fight your own son for the benfit of a bunch of strangers you just met and have no connections to. I never could pick any other side than the institute because it just didn't make sense within the story.

a fallout playthrough without choosing brotherhood of steel feels wrong.

I kept killing the BOS in New Vegas, which is the best fps fallout. Fallout 2 being the best overall fallout. Wasteland 3 is pretty fun too, it's in the style of the older fallout games.

The Nuka World was what was stupid to me. Why would you raid your own settlements? Then they crapped it up with gore you couldn't clean up. I just completely skip it. It could have really been cool.

I never even bothered with the expansions, and now that you said nuka world was stupid I'm glad I didn't pay the extra cash.

I know! I am playing a vanilla game and planning to take the Institute path this time. Why would you trash such a fabulous place?

Games? I only play older games.

Dark souls series, Command and conquer type games.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon on mobile.

PC, more D&D style games, pathfinder king maker.

In emulation, I go all the way back to C64 with battletech genre, mech warrior.

The game I miss the most, is the SOCOM series from sony playstation. Except the last one, that was so bad it killed Zipper Interactive.

We are truly living in the golden age of video games.

I am not talking abouy yhe big stuff, Cyberpunk and Call of Duty, Assasin Creed...

For several years i stayed out of it because They simply Did Not make games For Me.

Metroidvanias.

Castlevania, Megamanx... That type..

Now?

Not only there are plenty of excellent games.

Hollow Knight is Insane.

Or, if you don't Have Much Time To Spend..

Little Nightmares 2, Limbo, inside...

Excellent Games.

I am talking about the indie.
