Aluminium's a conductor. Actual tin prevents transmission.

I wonder why they decided to change materials. Maybe I'm overthinking things here.

It's the Faraday cage that blocks electromagnetic fields, the material must be conductive to do that. Tin is conductive (think tin-solder).
