Whenever the subject comes up I always tell my friends that I leave the seat and lid down, but that's because I just don't like the look of the open toilet. Even as a single guy I closed it.
The responsibility for checking the seat should be on the person sitting. It's common friggin' sense.

Same, also it's more sanitary - especially if you close the lid before flushing.

I think I found my fellow germaphobes/gentlemen (ladies). I also close the lid, and I'm a lady. I don't wear makeup or use any fancy stuff, I have a comb and some hair gel, deodorant... All of it lives in the drawer.

Open toilet seats are gross. Clutter is annoying. My wife and I agree on both of those points.
