Omaha is a "newer" city, relatively speaking. Meaning, that it wasn't really built up and paved over until the 1900-1920's. How do they have such crazy ass street intersections like this? I'd expect this in Chicago, Boston, Philly and DC, which are older cities where they didn't have zoning practices like they did for newer cities out west.

I'm pretty confident most of them resulted from farm roads (probably following terrain as you mentioned) where meeting up "close enough" was fine when you had a dirt road and heavy traffic was two wagons. That turns into a clusterfrack if you expand into multiple lanes going each way and turn it into a controlled intersection.

East of where I live there's a relatively low population area where the roads are perfectly on the N/S, E/W grid. I wish they would use NW/SE, NE/SW instead, though. When you're driving east in the morning or west in the late afternoon, you end up looking straight at the sun.

I'd love to see these in Melbourne in one of those intersections where you turn right by pulling into the left-most lane in the middle of the intersection. It's called a hook turn, and it's stupidly fucked up. Kinda like these pokemon intersections.

I don't think they have any MLK roads of any sort, though they do have a "diverse" part of their city that's majority "urban youths" and accounts for something like 75% of the violent crime in their entire state.
