The code is supposedly locked except for business purposes. It's absolutely trivial to buy followers on Twitter, and there are huge rings of "follow for follow", etc. It's painfully cheap to buy followers, $3/100 followers is the high end. For $300 you end up with 10,000 followers. So for a few hundred dollars and some sucking up you can get a ton of followers and a blue check mark. Twitter influence is completely fake and it's no issue for the rich, famous, and powerful to spend thousands of dollars on followers to have additional influence. Stopping that would be one of the highest priorities for making twitter less of a liberal shithole.

Twitter is getting rid of bots, to avoid showing a HUGE spike in the number of (newly-joined conservative) twats they have. That way they can say "Elon Musk didn't change our twat count."

Musk announced that he was going to get rid of bots. Some people have theorized that Twitter itself created bots to follow and like certain accounts. I could easily see twitter getting paid off by some publicists or even Disney themselves to promote certain actors at certain times to help push a movie or their career without the actor or personality even knowing about it.

Now that Musk is walking in, Twitter may be canning all of their self made bots.

Or maybe some excited employee got the green light to axe a bunch of bots agreed to by his boss in order to look good when Musk walks in the door. Previously all of those bots helped to inflate twitters subscriber numbers.
