I don't see how these headlights on modern cars are legal. They are absolutely blinding to other drivers. Car lobby must have a plan like just buy our new car with tinted front windows so you can see at night

buy our new car with tinted front windows so you can see at night

Clown world.

They usually aren't legal. If the car came with halogen bulbs, it is illegal to replace them with LEDs unless you change the entire assembly to an LED assembly. The headlights are approved as an entire device, including the factory-spec bulbs.

All new cars headlights are too fucking bright. It's fucking stupid and ridiculous and dangeorus

[–] 5 pts

Absolutely. If you need ultra bright headlights to see that badly you need to either 1) slow the fuck down or 2) not drive.

[–] 4 pts

Yup, they might as well be driving with high beams on.

My favorite are the Chinese junk retrofit kits. These fuckers are driving around with their headlights blinking at 60 Hz. I can't even imagine what it's like to drive like that. Your car travels 2 or 3 feet in between pulses, so the strobe effect must be quite strong.

Ability to sense things correlates with intelligence. Dumb people probably don't see the flicker, they just see it as a slightly dimmer but continuous light.

Back when CRT monitors were normal I would walk around and change people's resolution to something reasonable, instead of the Windows default of 60 Hz. They had no idea that anything was wrong, and only half of them noticed an improvement.

Ford is the worse offender. Damn near impossible to drive in desert approaching them .

As a bonus, all the light switch does is turn on the "unseen by driver" tail lights.

Why bother having it, as it almost forces the driver to think tail are on.

I knew someone who mounted floodlights on his bumper which could be switched on from the driver's seat. Illegal as heck, but gave him great satisfaction in certain circumstances.

Just buy a mirror, completly legal and gives them a taste of their own medicine.

[–] 1 pt

I'm pretty sure that's not legal.

[–] 0 pt

And them blinding you is? A mirror simply returns the favor, not like you're actively blinding them.

[–] 0 pt

So having the wrong color paint is illegal? They make mirror paint.

[–] 1 pt

Use an amber colored light, it will be a rear foglight.

[–] 0 pt

Maybe so, but dramatically reduces the desired effect on the offending driver following you.

Red Greene made a device for dealing with this. Probably just as illegal, but way more entertaining. Because all his vehicles are shit boxes, Red showed us how to rig a rear bumper to fall off with the tug of a rope. Real good for dealing with tailgaters

I think the people who jack up their pick-up trucks and don't adjust their headlights down are almost at the same level of retardation as niggers. Jacking up a truck does nothing except that it looks cool. Kind of like high heels for women. When you "lift" your truck all you are doing is diminishing your towing ability, handling, mileage, speed and mainly handling. It's extremely gay.

I really do view all vanity as a feminine attribute. People always want to show off to me but all I think is "you're basically a chick." I see a guy in a lambo and I just think, "that guy managed to be 10x more high maintenance than every girl I've ever known. He has to be super gay."

The only dumb overpriced electronic luxury feature I actually want in my car is the auto tinting rear view mirror.

Also I'm a total asshole and I replaced my cars medieval oil lamp tier incandescents with full blown LEDs. The high beams are like the search light on a police helicopter now. The deer don't freeze, they melt!

[–] 3 pts

Definitely an asshole.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

In my defense the 20 year old stock lights were near useless, I replaced the entire assemblies and the car is very low, so it's not like when those guys put them on a lifted truck and drive around with the lights shinning directly into your cabin on the highway (unless you drive a stanced go-kart) or when kids change out their bulbs for $20 and spew bright, unfocused light eveywhere. The highs are for the heavily wooded and pot hole riddled twisties crawling with deer around here and I'm alert/engaged at the wheel and toggle off the Retina Ender 9000s when traffic is coming in the opposite direction (usually before they even round the corner).

[–] 1 pt

If you actually changed the whole light assembly to an LED assembly, then you are likely less of an asshole. LED bulbs in an old fixture are always asshole filled.

From someone who got the auto tinting rear mirror as a feature before auto side tint became a thing..... You want that too

[–] 1 pt

I have one, it sucks. Doesn't react fast enough, doesn't tint enough, and can't go manual.

Good idea, poor execution. I want dimming on my side mirrors myself.

[–] 1 pt

Oh, I had one in my last car, in this car and in the wife's car. They have all been fine, I forget I even have them because they work so well, when I notice blinding headlights it's usually the drivers side mirror or I turned off the auto-dim by accident messing with the neighboring map light button or something.

[–] 2 pts

I just slow down until they pass me, and then it's my turn.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts (edited )

Most of the idiots now drive with their high beams on the highway. It's especially bad on the new vehicles. I've been doing a lot of highway driving and I've just started keying my mirrors down so they don't direct the high beams into my face.

[–] 1 pt

Yep, same. It's amazing to me how many people are driving with their high-beams on, their dad probably never taught them "you never put your high beams on when other cars are around, it blinds people." That's what my dad taught me, most of these people probably had no father figure, which is also why they're gay.

I had light bar on a gmc Jimmy when I was a kid. I turned 2 of them backwards. Worked great
