Most western holidays celebrate the changing of seasons and the folklore that accompanied them, Christmas (or Yule) was to celebrate the winter solstice, where the people had survived halfway through the harsh winters of Europe, easter is to celebrate the spring equinox and life returning to the world after winter, halloween is the celebration of the autumn equinox where people would gather to harvest their crops before the cold of winter destroyed them.
