There is nothing "proper" about using a plural form when you wish to indicate a singular. "They" is plural; "he" is singular. James is singular. James is "he" not "they." This is not ideology, or social engineering, or politics, this is rationality. And I would like to believe, common sense, although the evidence that this still exists is vanishingly slight.
It's about controlling the language. Nothing to do with whether it's correct or not.
Was that not the point? The nigger tried to correct with the wrong plural form,like niggers talk.

Doesn't change the fact that James was correct. Nigger is always nigger.
I know that using "he" or "she" is correct, but I still use "they" almost exclusively because
1) I don't give a shit.
2) I'm lazy.
3) Fuck your pronouns and fuck you.
In some languages plural form of 2nd person is used in formal conversation to address one person.
But the nigger form of nigger is always correct, regardless. James was right.
