When you absolutely, positively need to kill the coyote and anything standing 100 yards behind it, accept no substitute.
I killed a coyote with a .308 because its what i had in my hand at the time. Shot him in the neck. The exit wound was spectacular.
No, ammo shouldn't be wasted. 17hmr or slightly bigger. I shouldn't talk though, last coyote I greased was with a 30.30 and cost me $3.
