Some asshole got "kitchen" (台所) on his arm back when I was stationed in Yokosuka. I asked him what it meant and he said "It means demon". I had to draw it out for him since he didn't know stroke order and he was one of those weebs that came to Japan because he liked anime and Tokyo Drift and he couldn't be troubled with actually learning some of the language. The waiter came by and I asked him...
台所はどこですか?(where is the kitchen?) He pointed toward the back.
Then I pointed to the dudes arm and asked the waiter... 何ですか?(what is it?)
The waiter, obviously knowing the word in English says "Ki-chin". Then he grinned at the guy with the tattoo.
The guy was like, "What?"
I said, "He likes your tattoo."
Not sure how he managed to get that in his arm, but weebs are so fucking gullible. Probably pissed the artist off or wore some shitty anime shirt and couldn't do them the favor of at least learning more than survival Japanese.
This is before smartphones were prevalent.
