Holocaust as a word has existed for thousands of years. It did not, however, exist as a historical event until a Jew bought an encyclopedia company. The word itself is of ancient Greek origin. It means, "whole burnt offering." The word does appear in the bible. It has been in common use for at least two thousand years. But again, not as a significant historical event.
