Instinct is to back up when someone is going to hit you, but that just gives them more time to line up their shot if you don't time it right. The closer you are the harder it is to hit someone unless you train to hit from close. You clinch not just because you're tired but because it stops the other guy from hitting you in any meaningful way.

Stone Toss used to post on Voat all the time under the name... shit, I forget... But every time he posted something it was damned funny and I gave him an upgoat. The rest of the active users would tear into him and call him a nigger kike faggot and such. He couldn't take it and left Voat. That was a year before Voat shut down.

Either don't challenge...or do so with the full intention of suckering them into throwing the first punch.
