Too many people are getting rich off of this broken system to change it in a democracy. Healthcare/Pharma is the top donor to politicians by economic field.

I agree. It's hard to change it. I'm not sure if it's a problem of democracy. Many other democratic countries have a less bad healthcare system and many Americans don't understand how broken theirs is. I would say it's more of a problem of education than democracy.
