Something hinky about the Brothers Grimm is that those who published their stories kept seriously altering each new edition while destroying the previous edition. Methinks the seventh edition is the oldest extant edition; and that’s very different from what has been about lately. Example: “Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs” (Tolkien originated the spelling “Dwarves”) was “Snow White & the Seven Thieves” (note not “Thiefs”). Curious as to whom the first edition may have named, requiring alteration as Prussia degenerated to Weimar.

*ves -> fs

That's just improper English. Plural of Wolf isn't wolfs, it's wolves.

But do note that "dwarfs" was the norm because the original consonant wasn't -f, but rather -g. It was Old English dweorg and thus -ves was not the expected sound change. This is a modern change.

You implying Walt Disney was dropping code?

Not even a little bit. I'm stating a fact on how to pluralize most *f words.
