I was living in Sydney when they hosted the rugby league World Cup a few years back. For those unfamiliar with rugby league it’s really only Australia (by far the best in the world), New Zealand, the north of England and some small pacific islands who have any interest in the sport, with everyone else in the World Cup just there to make up the numbers. Despite this the entire Sydney press corps was at the airport to welcome the Irish team one lunchtime, solely to interview one player on the Irish team called Wayne Kerr. It’s not even funny in an Irish accent so he may not have been aware of the joke prior to that interview on the lunchtime news. Aussies are so classless it’s utterly hilarious - lunchtime news asking some lad “so are you a bit wanker, Wayne?”
