Even a crappy mask will filter out some of the larger droplets in BOTH directions, basic physics explains why. Will a floppy surgical mask with open sides guarantee filtration of 95% of all particles? No. But it will cut down on initial viral loads in certain situations, which could lead to better outcomes.
