Depending on the study, I'm guessing fast walkers are more considerate/aware of their surroundings if measured in a high traffic environment. If measured on hikes, fast walkers tend to be people who are fitter, have a higher degree of self respect, and carry themselves accordingly. Which I doubt this study is about.
