As a matter of fact, I think that if The Powers That Be did not invent Bitcoin, they are laughing until they piss their fucking pants that someone did it for them. It is precisely what is required to transition to a Cashless Society. To maintain the Status Quo of Vice, Crime, Graft, and Corruption of our current system when every transaction can be traced by Big Brother, an alternate quasi anonymous currency is needed. Plebs need a way to engage in Vice and Crime, and crypto is anonymous enough that most people feel comfortable doing so, but TPTB can bust anybody that they choose to. And let whomever they want slide. It allows "anonymous" bribes to take place for those that toe the party line, but they can be crushed at any time if TPTB choose to do so. It's a perfect stick and carrot setup. I wrote a short story called "I Tyrant" some years back where I explained exactly why I, as a Tyrant, would invent crypto if it did not exist. The couple of examples I tossed out are the tip of the iceberg as to why this system is the opposite of what people who think they are sticking it to the man think it is. Just to be clear: I first got interested in Bitcoin back when I was reading about it on a certain performance PC forum right when it was introduced, and my interest was for the type of reasons you are referring to, but after a few years deep in the community I realized that the whole shebang had been corrupted and wlaked away.
